Tai chi and yoga instructor Kathy Hagood is back to lead us in another meditative movement workshop. She will start the class with introductions and interactive discussion, then shift into warm ups, walking meditation, Chi Gong and Tai Chi.
Meditation, which is a mind-body practice, always has a physical as well as mental component, oftentimes using the breath as a home base sensation. Some forms of meditation, including Chi Gong and Tai Chi, use body movement itself as a mode of focus for training both the mind and body. The many benefits of meditation include reducing tension and anxiety, boosting mood, and improving memory.
The slow-flowing grace of Chi Gong and Tai Chi exercises and forms allow the mind to quiet, generating alpha brain waves that deeply relax and heal the body and mind. It's almost impossible to move slowly and fluidly without focusing. When we get distracted and speed up during our practice, we simply re-center and slow down. Walking meditation is another moving meditation technique.
For the workshop, please wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and prepare to relax and have fun.
